A friend told investigators that he was worried about Daniel J. Paige, 50, because he last saw him on Aug. 29, Deputy Chief Ken Kaupas said. He went looking for him on the property of Seeler Industries, off Route 53/North Broadway Street and Genstar Lane in unincorporated Joliet, and found him deceased, he said.
Paige, who was described as a homeless Joliet resident, had apparently been stripping copper wire from a ComEd site on the Seeler property when he somehow struck a live wire, Kaupas said. It's not clear how the accident happened or how the friend knew to look for him at that site, he said.
"ComEd responded to the location to be sure it was safe for emergency personnel," Kaupas said. "All of the signs seem to indicate (Paige died from) electrocution."
Paige was released on parole in March of this year after serving about two years of a four-year prison term for burglary, according to Illinois Department of Corrections records. It was the third time he'd been sent to prison on that charge, having been sentenced to nine years in 2002 and four years in 1987.
