Man Faces Weapons Charge After Getting Stopped for No Headlights

A Joliet man had a loaded handgun in his glove compartment when he was pulled over for driving without headlights late Tuesday, Joliet police said.

Eric Williamson, 27, of the 1300 block of Pioneer Road, Crest Hill, is charged with two counts of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, obstructing identification, driving without headlights and driving on a suspended license, according to jail records.

Capt. Tab Jensen said Williamson was stopped at 10:53 p.m. at Cleveland and Collins streets after an officer spotted him driving without headlights. Williamson allegedly gave the officer a false name, but gave permission to have the vehicle searched, Jensen said.

An officer found the loaded gun in the glove compartment, according to police.

Williamson remains at the Will County jail on $20,000 bond in connection with the weapons charges, as well as battery and traffic charges dating back to 2012, according to court records.
