Man Critically Injured in Possible Alcohol-Related Crash: Police

The Joliet man veered off Theodore Road into a farm field and was thrown from his car, police said.

Alcohol may have been a factor in an early morning crash that left a Joliet man in critical condition, Joliet Police Cmdr. Al Roechner said.

The 46-year-old man was driving westbound on Theodore shortly after midnight when he veered off into a farm field near County Line Road and was ejected 30 feet from his car, Roechner said.

He was transported to Presence St. Joseph Medical Center in Joliet and later flown to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, he said. He suffered massive internal and head injuries.

The man's identity was not released. He lives in Joliet but has a Plainfield address.

Prayers for recovery go out to this unidentified man but this story should serve as a cautionary tale for those who think they can make it to their destination after consuming enough quantities of alcoholic beverages to impair your cognitive abilities and motor/coordination skills. Because this man chose not to do the right thing, if he survives, he faces a life of recovery from multiple massive internal and head injuries, thousands perhaps millions of dollars on medical bills, arrest, prosecution for driving while intoxicated, jail time, licence suspension/revocation, court costs and fines, total loss of a vehicle, loss of job, possible lawsuit from farm field owner and the list goes on and for what? So you can drive your car anyway even though you know you are too drunk to drive it but nobody is going to tell you what to do because your a 46 year old man and you know what you're doing? Sad.

Good Grief, must be nice to be perfect! Pray the man survives!

Herc, what part of gmdocnice's statement is not true?

Isn't life grand, that people can be so righteous! People shouldn't throw stones if they live in glass houses. How many times has each and everyone of you drove when you shouldn't have? Do you take prescription drugs? Get off the bandwagon this man made a mistake and he's now paying the price. Here's another ditty for you, all you health nuts running, you better believe the cost of knee and hip surgeries cost more because of you!

Right on Herc! Where was the evidence he was drunk. All I see is possibly. Possibly all these dogooders are assholes possibly. But I will wait for the evidence.
Kristine Neumann September 02, 2013 at 01:09 PM
The article in the newspaper states he was driving a Mustang, going about 90 mph. How would any of you feel if you were hit by this individual? This was not just a "mistake". I'm just thankful he didn't kill an innocent person.
Vic September 02, 2013 at 01:52 PM
Kristine! I'm not saying alcohol isn't involved and if he hurt my family I would probably kill him. And if they find he was drunk he should be prosecuted. What I am saying is the people here want to crucify this guy without concrete proof. That's what happened to Zimmerman and its wrong. Blast the poor idiot after the trial not before. Hope none if these people here in on the jury though.

@lala apparently your ignorance is showing on the lack of knowledge of the insurance companies rating scales. Insurance base their scale on insurance rates by how much they pay out in claims. So runners have more surgeries than say the walker. So their premium would be higher. Same goes with car insurance, life insurance and medical insurance. Get it now?

Herc -- you have begun rambling... check your meds!
Herc September 02, 2013 at 03:27 PM
Sorry just me not on meds but if my ramblings are bothering you, that makes me happy! lol
just me September 02, 2013 at 04:58 PM
I already figured that one out Herc -- you are just here to stir the pot. Your comments don't bother me one bit. When you jump from criticizing someone for being perfect to glass houses to running to insurance companies, thought maybe you missed your afternoon dose.

The accident scene looks horrible. He knocked down a fence, bushes, and a lot more. I am surprised and glad he didn't die at the scene. Drinking can kill in many ways.
Herc September 02, 2013 at 08:59 PM
@lala apparently your reading comprehension is showing, maybe you should read everyones post before stating your comments. Enough said regarding you trying to bait people, as I am above your lack of comprehension. I was commenting on someone elses post. End of conversation with you!

...."Alcohol may have been a factor in an early morning crash that left a Joliet man in critical condition, Joliet Police Cmdr. Al Roechner said.".... Shut up Al... was he drunk? was he not drunk and instead very tired and fell asleep? Everyone picking on this as a drunk driving accident just because some putz with a badge mentions drunk driving while providing no evidence as such. Total BS...
vszendzial September 07, 2013 at 07:56 PM
Don't jump to conclusions on this one folks! Turns out the gentleman driving had either a stroke or brain aneurysm. Scott Petric..... seems you were correct on this one sir.
Herc September 07, 2013 at 09:27 PM
Sorry to hear that, I pray that he makes a complete recovery!
Jax September 09, 2013 at 02:35 PM
was there another story because I didn't see what they ruled what was the cause of the accident. I hope he is gonna recovery its a shame no matter how it happened thank goodness I know this may sound bad but that it happened so late and no kids were out playing in their backyards and saw this..

Jax -- there's been no update because the person in the crash is still hospitalized. I do not believe charges will be filed until he's released. Also, I do not believe toxicology results are back.
