Man Chokes Girlfriend, Mother Cuts Daughter in Unrelated Attacks: Police

The two aggravated battery cases, both of which started with arguments, took place over the weekend, Joliet Police Cmdr. Rich Demick said.

Two Joliet people were arrested over the weekend for attacking household members, and in one case an 8-year-old child had to call Joliet police, Cmdr. Rich Demick said.

In the first case, Kevin R. House, 30, of 1511 Mason, was intoxicated and watching the Super Bowl game at about 8:30 p.m. Sunday with his on-again, off-again girlfriend, Demick said. The pair began arguing, and House allegedly pushed the woman against the wall and told her, "If you want to act like a man, I'll treat you like a man," Demick said.

When she slapped him in self-defense, House allegedly wrapped his hands around the woman's neck and began choking her, Demick said. As she gasped for air, he released her, pounded her into the wall and began choking her again, he said.

The woman's 8-year-old son called 911, and House fled, Demick said. He was picked up by police at about 7 a.m. Monday and arrested on charges of aggravated battery and domestic battery.

The victim did not require treatment for her injuries. The topic of the fight is not known, Demick said.

House is being held in the Will County jail. His bond will be set at a hearing Tuesday afternoon.

In the second case, Rose A Jones, 54, of 708 3rd Ave., had been out shopping with her 17-year-old daughter and the two began fighting as they returned home at about 2:10 p.m. Saturday, Demick said.

As they walked up the steps into the house, Jones allegedly kicked the girl in the face, he said.

"When they got inside, (Jones) picked up a knife and started swinging it around," Demick said.

The blade struck the victim in the right hand, he said. Both that injury and the laceration to the girl's head required medical treatment, he said.

Again, police do not know the topic of the argument or what provoked Jones' alleged behavior, Demick said.

Jones was arrested and charged with aggravated battery and domestic battery. She is being held in the Will County jail in lieu of $10,000 bond.
