Man Charged with Sexually Abusing Toddler, Police Say

Miguel Reyes has been arrested on two counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse, Joliet Police Lt. Brian Dupuis said.

A Joliet man who allegedly sexually abused a toddler had been arrested by Joliet police, Lt. Brian Dupuis said.

Miguel N. Reyes, 29, of 305 Youngs Ave., was taken into custody Thursday following an investigation of more than a month on allegations he sexually touched the 3-year-old child of his girlfriend, Dupuis said.

The girlfriend, 35, has also been charged with endangering the life/health of a child for allowing Reyes back into her home after being told by police he was to have no contact with them, Dupuis said.

Her identity is not being revealed in order to protect the identity of the victim. She was released on a recognizance bond pending an Oct. 24 court date.

The woman notified police on Aug. 26 that she thought her boyfriend was sexually molesting the child, who is not related to Reyes, and a victim sensitive interview conducted with the toddler verified the situation, Dupuis said.

When police returned the mother and child to their home following the interview, they found Reyes there, which is what led to charges against the mother, he said.

The Illinois Department of Children and Family Services has been involved in the case, but the mother still has custody of the child, he said.

Reyes was charged with two counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse of a child under the age of 13. He is being held in the Will County jail pending a bond hearing.
