Man Begs Ex to Meet Him, Then Tries to Strangle Her: Police

The intervention of the victim's 16-year-old son helped free the woman; Orlando Williams was charged with agg battery a short time later, Joliet police said.

A Joliet man who persuaded his former girlfriend to meet him outside only to slam her into a stop sign and strangle her when they began to argue was arrested Saturday night, Joliet police said.

Orlando Williams, 40, of 350 E. Washington St., called the woman at about 10:45 p.m. and pleaded with her to meet him at Cass Street and Criswell Drive, which she did, Cmdr. Al Roechner said.

However, when the discussion became an argument, Williams allegedly grabbed the woman's left hand, pushed her into a stop sign and started to choke her, Roechner said. The woman's 16-year-old son intervened, allowing his mother to scream for help and prompting Williams to flee, he said.

Police who arrived at the scene observed the victim's throat injuries and searched the area, locating Williams at Cass and Hebbard streets. He was arrested and charged with aggravated domestic battery.

Williams is being held in the Will County jail. According to county records, in 2009 he was arrested twice on domestic battery charges and once for aggravated battery. He also was arrested for violating parole in 2010 and knowingly damaging property in 2011.
