A man was beaten and robbed of $40 Monday night by six men armed with a butcher knife and a baseball bat, Joliet Police Cmdr. Rich Demick said.

The victim told police he was walking in the area of 2nd Avenue and Richards Street at about 10:20 p.m. when he was approached by a group of black men. One of them said, "Give me all your money," and then struck the victim in the head, while the others began to kick and punch him, Demick said.

When the man was on the ground, the suspects took his money and then fled the scene, Demick said. Nothing else was stolen.
