Man Attacks Wife in Hospital Bed, Joliet Police Say

Davaughn Ervin was charged with felony aggravated battery for choking his wife and knocking a phone away so she couldn't call for help, Cmdr. Al Roechner said.

A Joliet man who jumped on his hospitalized wife and attempted to strangle her was arrested Saturday night and charged with aggravated domestic battery, according to Joliet police.

Davaughn Lydell Ervin, 27, was reportedly intoxicated when he went to his wife's room at Presence St. Joseph Medical Center in Joliet at about 6:45 p.m. and began screaming at her, Cmdr. Al Roechner said. He then jumped onto her bed and used his hands to ring her neck, he said.

The woman screamed for help and tried to reach for the phone, but Ervin knocked it to the floor and then fled before anyone could stop him, Roechner said.
