Man Beat Girlfriend with Belt for Talking with Store Clerk: Police

Hiram Medina-Quendo, charged with aggravated domestic battery, also choked the woman to the point of near-unconsciousness, Joliet police said.

A Joliet man was so angered by an interaction his girlfriend had with a store clerk that he took a belt to her when they returned home, Joliet police said.

Hiram Medina-Quendo, 24, was taken into custody at the couple's 616 Vine St. home and charged with aggravated domestic battery Tuesday after police observed the slash marks on the woman's legs and back as well as bumps and bruises to her head and neck, Joliet Police Cmdr. Al Roechner said.

The victim told police they had been at a pet store in Lockport earlier in the evening, and that her boyfriend did not like the way she spoke to the clerk, Roechner said.

When they got home at about 9 p.m., Medina-Quendo allegedly punched her in the back of the head three times and then struck her back and legs with a black leather belt, he said. He also kicked and choked her to the point of near-unconsciousness, Roechner said.

Medina-Quendo is being held in the Will County jail in lieu of $50,000 bond.
