Man Accused of Gouging Out Uncle's Eyes to Be Retried

A mistrial in Exulam Holman's first trial was declared Thursday when the judge learned that jurors had been discussing one of the witnesses.

An unincorporated man who allegedly gouged out his uncle's eyes in a fight over a remote control will be retried in August after a mistrial in his case was declared Thursday.

A judge declared a mistrial in Exulam Holman's case after learning one of the jurors recognized a witness' nickname and discussed it with other jurors, according to a story by The Associated Press.

Holman, 33, is charged with aggravated domestic battery and aggravated battery of a person over age 60 in the attack on Melvin Clifford, 62, on New Year's Eve in the house the two shared. Holman also allegedly pushed him down a flight of stairs.

His punishment should be to have patches attached to his eyes for 6 months.
