Man 'Abuses' Girlfriend For 4 Hours in Joliet Motel Room: Cops

The woman escaped when her boyfriend fell asleep, police said.

A man held his live-in girlfriend captive in a Joliet motel room and "abused" her for hours before he fell asleep and she escaped, police said.

Venustiano Mireles, 46, was charged with unlawful restraint, aggravated domestic battery and interfering with a report of domestic battery in connection with the alleged early Saturday morning episode at Joliet's Bel-Air Motel.

Mireles' live-in girlfriend of the last month woke to Mireles on top of her with his hand over her mouth, police said. Mireles allegedly punched the woman, threatened to kill her children if she resisted him or screamed, and abused her for four hours.

The woman was able to give Mireles the slip after he fell asleep, police said.

The Joliet police had no known address for Mireles. According to jail records, he lived on Columbia Street.
