Knife-Wielding Joliet Man Looking For Lady Friend Threatens to Burn Down Building: Cops

The Joliet man went to jail before he found his girlfriend, police said.

A Joliet man armed with a knife showed up at a Douglas Street apartment building looking for his girlfriend and threatened to burn the place down, police said.

Ricky Phillips, 50, of 720 E. Washington St. was charged with aggravated assault in connection with the early Thursday morning incident at the Douglas Street building.

Phillips also was hit with a felony charge of driving on a suspended license. The police reportedly found his license was suspended when they caught up with him a couple blocks away on Center Street and discovered he had two prior convictions for the same offense.

The cops were called to the building on Douglas near Nicholson Street shortly before 1:30 a.m. to investigate a report of a man shouting at an apartment door.

The people inside the apartment saw looked through the peephole and the man brandishing a large knife, police said. He also reportedly threatened to kill the occupants.

The knife-wielding man believed his girlfriend was inside the apartment, police said, and he warned that he was going to set fire to the building before leaving. He then took off in a white Jaguar.

When the cops apprehended Phillips they found a knife in his coat pocket, police said.
