Jury Takes 35 Minutes to Convict Joliet Man in Vampire Attempted Murder

A Joliet man claimed he was crazy and saw vampires when he shot his 12-year-old son in the head.

A man is looking at spending the rest of his life in prison for shooting his 12-year-old son in the head.

It took a jury only 35 minutes to convict Roderick Tademy for attempted murder, aggravated battery to a child and aggravated battery with a firearm Thursday afternoon.

Tademy, 37, shot his son Obedyah Tademy in December 2010.

Obedyah Tademy survived the attack but remains in a long-term care facility. He is unable to breathe, walk or talk on his own.

Obedyah Tademy was playing video games in the family's living room when his father shot him in the head with a .22-caliber handgun.

Obedyah Tademy's mother testified during the trial that Roderick Tademy believed he .

In finding Tademy guilty, the jury had to reject his claim of insanity and spotting vampires.

The child's mother also reportedly testified that on the day of the shooting, she heard gunfire. Roderick Tademy then told her that her son was dead. She dialed 911 and the police arrested Tademy at the scene.

“It is beyond belief that a father would shoot his own son in such a callous fashion,” said James Glasgow. “It is the ultimate betrayal of the unconditional love a parent owes his child.”

Judge Sarah Jones is set to sentence Tademy on Aug. 3.
