Jurors Picked For Joliet Cop Charged With Beating Woman

Testimony in the trial of a former Joliet police officer charged with beating a woman while on duty is expected to start Tuesday.

Jury selection for the trial of a former Joliet police officer charged with beating a woman while on duty is expected to start Tuesday.

Thomas O'Conner, 37, faces charges of aggravated battery and official misconduct in connection with the alleged attack of the Yorkville woman in February 2012.

O'Connor was responding to a call at the Star Inn when he alleged punched Shantique Jackson, 43. Jackson, who according to court records resides in Yorkville, was staying at the 2219 1/2 W. Jefferson St. motel.

Jackson was arrested after the alleged beating at the hands of O'Connor. She was charged with domestic battery of allegedly abusing a 48-year-old man. She was also charged with resisting O'Connor. The charges against Jackson were dropped by prosecutors.

O'Connor was later fired by the police department.
