Joliet Woman Charged With Aggravated Battery After Striking Officer

Datiana T. Edwards was taken into custody after a domestic dispute escalated and she struck an officer, according to police reports.

A 20-year-old Joliet woman involved in a domestic dispute with her live-in girlfriend swung and missed—her girlfriend—but struck a Joliet police officer responding to a call for help, according to Capt. Les O'Connor.

O'Connor said Datiana T. Edwards, 20, of 1860 Asbury Circle, Joliet, was charged with aggravated battery to a police officer—a felony—and resisting an officer following an incident that began about 10 a.m. on Tuesday.

O'Connor said officers were called to the 1800 block of Asbury Circle for the report of a domestic dispute between Edwards and her live-in girlfriend.

"The officers tried to mediate the dispute," O'Connor said. "At one point, Ms. Edwards charged the other woman. An officer stood in-between, and she struck that officer several times."

O'Connor said the officer suffered a minor shoulder injury and sustained minor lacerations to his hand and his eye. He said Edwards was taken into custody after a second squad car was called to assist at the scene.

Edwards was transported to the Will County Adult Detention Facility and was awaiting a court appearance on Wednesday to determine bond information.
