Joliet Man's Family Showered With Shattered Glass As He Bashes In Van Windows With Hammer: Cops

The Joliet man's wife was going to drive away with their three children when he took a hammer to the van's windows, police said.

A Joliet man chased his wife out to her van then bashed in the vehicle's windows while she and their three young children sat inside it, police said.

The alleged hammer-wielding man, 38-year-old Cedric McDonald of 1008 Gardner St., was arrested on charges of endangering the life or health of children, reckless conduct, criminal damage to property, and obstructing justice in connection with the incident at his home Wednesday morning.

McDonald's wife had already left him once but returned to get her wallet, police said. She was leaving again about 4:30 a.m. when McDonald reportedly chased her out to the van where their three children were sitting.

After the wife got in the van, McDonald took a hammer to the vehicle's windows, bashing them in and showering his wife and three children with shattered glass, police said.

The children are 11, 2 and 1 year old, police said.

McDonald was allegedly uncooperative after officers arrived to arrest him. He was booked into the Will County jail.
