Joliet Man Questioned Over Mississippi Ave. Killing Charged Only With Unlawful Use of a Weapon by a Felon

The Joliet ex-con allegedly gunned down a man pointing a .38-caliber revolver at him.

A Joliet ex-con grilled about a Sunday morning killing on Mississippi Avenue only gunned down the other man after he was threatened with a .38-caliber revolver, a source said.

Donald Woods, 19, was charged with the unlawful use of a weapon by a felon in connection with the death of 27-year-old Dameon Anderson. The charge was filed late Wednesday.

Woods shot down Anderson with a rifle after Anderson pulled a .38-caliber revolver on him, a source said.

Anderson was found shot in a Mississippi Avenue alley. He was taken from the alley to Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox where he was pronounced dead.

Woods was later picked up on a Will County warrant charging him with aggravated domestic battery. He caught the felony case for allegedly unleashing a vicious attack on his girlfriend Thursday. He was questioned about the killing after he was taken into custody.

The domestic case stemmed from Woods showing up at the South Larkin Avenue Taco Bell where his girlfriend was working shortly before 10 p.m. When he got to his girlfriend's job he punched and choked her, police said.

Once Woods finished knocking his girlfriend around he took off, police said, and was located Sunday during the homicide investigation.

Police also hit Woods with a warrant charging he violated his parole. He was released from prison in November after serving a three-year sentence for robbery.
