Joliet Man Pushed Kmart Security Guard When He & His Lady Friend Caught Shoplifting: Cops

The Joliet man was jailed but his lady friend was released on her own recognizance.

A Joliet couple escaped after a Kmart security guard caught them shoplifting but were nabbed by the cops not long after, police said.

Donald Smith, 42, and Keisha Hicks, 39, both of 1514 Fairview Ave., were apprehended Friday evening near the Richards Street exit from Interstate 80.

Smith and Hicks stole baby clothes from Kmart, police said. A security guard confronted the couple and Smith allegedly pushed him away.

The alleged push caught Smith an aggravated battery case. He was taken to the Will County jail and remains in custody.

Smith's bond was set at $25,000. He and Hicks were also charged with retail theft. Hicks was released on her own recognizance.
