Joliet Man Fleeing Cops After Shooting Falls Off Roof & Breaks Face: Police

A man on the run from the cops following a drive-by shooting kicked in the door of a house, ran upstairs and ducked out a window but plunged to the ground when he slipped off the roof, police said.

Edgar Gonzalez, 21, of 30 Wilson Ave. broke every bone in his face in the 11:45 a.m. Saturday fall, police said. He was taken to Silver Cross Hospital and is being held on a warrant charging him with domestic battery. Further charges are pending, police said.

Gonzalez was one of three men wanted in connection with a drive-by shooting on Second Avenue earlier that morning, police said. Six shots were fired into a residence from a black Camaro.

Officers spotted four men standing around a black Camaro on Garnsey Avenue soon after, police said. They made a break for it, police said, with Gonzalez kicking down a door and making it out onto a roof before plummeting down and landing on his face.

A .40-caliber pistol was left on the floor of the Camaro, police said.

The three others were captured near the corner of Columbia and Creed streets. One was released without charge. The other two were taken to the Will County jail.

One of those two, Juan Mendoza, 18, of 1207 Massachusetts Ave. was charged with the aggravated discharge of a firearm. The other, Antonio Hernandez, 26, of 418 Columbia St. was charged with the aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and possession of a firearm without an owner's identification card.
