Joliet Man Charged With 2004 Murder Arrives at Will County Jail

Durando Eskridge was captured in Iowa more than a year ago but only arrived in Joliet to face murder charges Wednesday.

A Joliet man wanted in connection with a 2004 shooting death finally arrived in town to face murder charges.

Durando Eskridge, 31, was brought by deputies to the Will County jail Wednesday night and appeared in court Thursday morning.

Eskridge was charged with two counts of first-degree murder in connection with the June 2004 killing of Herbert Brown.

Brown, also of Joliet, was gunned down on Englewood Avenue after an argument.

Eskridge was picked up eight years after the killing in Des Moines, Iowa. He also caught a drug case in Iowa and did time in prison for it, according to the Polk County, Iowa, Attorney's Office, delaying his extradition to Illinois.

Eskridge was arraigned Thursday morning and pleaded not guilty. He was returned to jail and is being held in lieu of $3 million bond.

Eskridge's attorney, Robert Lewin, filed his appearance during the arraignment. Lewin said he was recently hired by Esridge's mother and that he is unfamiliar with the circumstances of the killing or the evidence against his client.

"I know nothing about the case," Lewin said.
