Joliet Man Charged After Hammes Police Standoff

Christopher Koehn is charged with reckless discharge of a firearm.

A Joliet man who was involved in a nearly four-hour standoff after allegedly firing a gun outside his Hammes Avenue home has been arrested.

Christopher Koehn, 30, is charged with reckless discharge of a firearm. Joliet Police Chief Brian Benton said Koehn fired a shotgun near his home at 217 Hammes at around 4:30 a.m. March 2.

No one was hurt in the incident, but Benton said Koehn was"despondent and armed" and retreated to his home after the shooting, refusing to come out.  After a nearly four-hour standoff, Joliet's Special Operations Unit entered the home and took Koehn into custody without incident.

Koehn was transported to a hospital for mental evaluation, and Benton said he would be arrested upon his release.

According to jail records, Koehn was arrested Wednesday morning. His bond was set at $100,000.
