Joliet Man, 22, Gets 30 Years for Drive-By Shooting Murder

Johnson shot William Gladson as he stood on a Joliet porch in August 2009, according to reports.

A Joliet man was sentenced to 30 years in prison for shooting a man while he stood on the porch of his 4th Avenue house.

Dearius M. Johnson, 22, 105 Stevens Ave., was sentenced by Will County Judge Ed Burmilla after pleading guilty to the August 2009 murder of 34-year-old William Gladson, according to a story in the Joliet Herald News.

Gladson, who had just been released from prison and was wearing a monitoring bracelet as part of his parole, was shot in the back, the story said. He apparently was not the intended target of Johnson's drive-by shooting; a second man was also struck but did not die from his injuries, the story said.

Johnson was reportedly retaliating for an earlier shooting, the story said.
