Joliet Crackdown on Impaired Drivers, Seat Belts Starts Today

Joliet police will be setting up roadside safety checkpoints, seat belt enforcement zones and traffic enforcement saturation patrols.

The Joliet Police Department is launching a crackdown on seat belt usage and impaired driving that starts today and continues through July 13.

The Seatbelt Safety Zones and Impaired Driving Enforcement is a Fourth of July campaign that's part of the the department’s Project B.E.S.S.T. ([seat] Belts, Education, Speeding, Stop Signs, and Texting) initiative.

Roadside safety checkpoints will be set up at various locations throughout the city as well as seat belt enforcement zones and citywide traffic enforcement saturation patrols, according to a news release issued by the city.

Officers will be checking for impaired drivers, occupant/child
restraint violations and drivers breaking section of the Illinois Vehicle Code.

The campaign is being funded by a grant from the Illinois Department of Transportation.
