Joliet Cops Collar Teen on Gun Charge, Man on Drug Charges at Evergreen Terrace

The man and the teen were arrested after the cops chased them, police said.

The cops chased a man and a teen through Evergreen Terrace before arresting them Thursday evening.

Police captured the older of the two about 7:15 p.m. The man, 22-year-old Kenneth Smith of 91 Bradford Road, was charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession of cannabis and criminal trespass. Smith had cocaine and marijuana in his pockets, police said.

Smith was carted down to the Will County jail.

The 17-year-old allegedly managed to elude the police a little bit longer than Smith but in the end was caught as well. While he was making a run for it, police said, he tossed away a handgun.

The teen was charged with the unlawful use of a weapon, the unlawful possession of ammunition, possession of a firearm without an owner's identification card, criminal trespassing and obstructing a police officer.

The teen was taken to River Valley Juvenile Detention Center.
