Jealous Boyfriend Batters Girlfriend, Crashes Into Cars: Cops

The Joliet man was mad because his girlfriend went to the movies with an old boyfriend, police said.

A Joliet man upset about his girlfriend going to the movies with an old boyfriend battered the young woman, lurked around outside her home, crashed into her car and also hit the vehicle of some other guy who just happened to be driving by, police said.

Alex Palomar, 21, of 3302 Traymore Drive was charged with domestic battery, criminal damage to property, reckless driving, battery and leaving the scene of an accident in connection with the late Tuesday night incident.

After growing angry with his girlfriend for her movie date with a former flame, Palomar hurled her phone to the floor of his home, grabbed her by the throat, dragged her outside, tossed her to the ground, slammed her head against the grass and broke the sideview mirror of her car. He then reportedly left.

Palomar headed to his girlfriend's Bolingbrook home and lay in wait for her there, police said. When she arrived, he allegedly drove his camouflage-patterned Jeep into her car. He also crashed into a white Pontiac driven by a man who had nothing to do with any of it, police said.

Palomar reportedly fled but the man driving the Pontiac gave chase and caught up with him on the Plainfield Road exit from Interstate 55. Palomar sideswiped the Pontiac there, police said, leaving the two vehicles disabled.

When officers arrived, Palomar told them he "wanted to commit suicide by cop because his girlfriend left him and that's why he crashed," police said.

Palomar was hauled off to the county jail.
