Human Skull Found in Creek Off Rowell Road: Sheriff's Office

The search for more remains will continue this weekend, officials said.

A human skull was found Thursday afternoon by surveyors working near Jackson Creek, the Will County Sheriff's Office has confirmed.

Deputies were back on the scene Friday and using cadaver dogs to search for more remains but had not found anything else as of 1 p.m., office spokeswoman Kathy Hoffmeyer said.

The skull was found under a bridge at Rowell Avenue, about a half-mile south of Arsenal Road, by Army Corps of Engineers surveyors working in the area, Hoffmeyer said.

It is impossible to know how long the skull might have been there or who it might belong to until forensic anthropologists examine it, she said.

A CBS-2 news report quoted sources as saying the skull did not have any teeth and might have been missing part of its lower jaw, but Hoffmeyer said she could not confirm that.

Joliet Patch will post more details as they become available.
