Police: Another Kid Left in a Parked Car
Joliet police say the girl was left in the vehicle while her mother shopped at Jewel; it's the sixth time this week someone has been ticketed for leaving a child or animal in a car.
Yet another child was left unattended in a parked car, said, as the spate of animals and kids left to fend for themselves during this broiling summer continued.
This most young girl to be found alone was left in a car parked outside the on North Larkin Avenue about 7 p.m. Monday, police said.
An officer checking to make sure fire lanes fronting the store were clear spotted a car parked illegally in the fire lane, police said. When he looked closer, he saw the car was running and that there was a 10-year-old girl inside.

The officer spoke with the girl, police said, and she told him she had been waiting there awhile.
The driver of the car, 23-year-old Capri Shoemaker of 967 Campbell St., emerged from the store and was ticketed for leaving the girl behind in the vehicle while she went shopping.

Shoemaker was the sixth person in less than a week to be charged with leaving either a child, a dog, or some combination of children and dogs alone in a car. In some instances temperatures were well in excess if 90 degrees and the windows of the vehicles were closed.
