What Garbage—Joliet Man Dumps Dog in Trash: Cops

The dog was recovered and taken to Joliet Township Animal Control.

JOLIET, Illinois — A Joliet man was charged with animal cruelty for dumping his small dog in the garbage, police said.

Michael Allen, 36, of 206 Comstock St. was seen dropping the small brown dog into the trash about 2:20 p.m. Saturday.

The dog was tied to a light post in front of Allen's home, said Joliet police Capt. Robert Briney. Allen unhitched the dog, picked it up and put it in a trashcan, he said.

Briney said he did not know if the dog was still in the garbage when officers arrived at Allen's home but noted that Allen admitted to putting the animal out with the trash.

The dog was turned over to Joliet Township Animal Control. Allen was released on his own recognizance.
