Fruit Punch Fight Between Sisters Leads to Knife Attack: Police

Emma Dortch was charged with aggravated domestic battery after she allegedly used a kitchen knife to slash her sister, Joliet police said.

A Joliet woman slashed her sister in the back with kitchen knife Wednesday morning after becoming enraged that the woman had drunk her fruit punch, Joliet police said.

Emma J. Dortch, 25, 841 N. Broadway St., confronted her sleeping sister at about 6 a.m. about the missing drink and then retrieved a knife from the kitchen that she used to attack the woman, Capt. Tab Jensen said.

The victim called police, and Dortch was arrested a short time later in the 900 block of Summit, Jensen said.

The victim's wound was not life-threatening, but she needed to be transported to Presence St. Joseph Medical Center in Joliet for stitches to close the laceration, he said.

Dortch is being held in the Will County jail pending a bond hearing.
