were forced to chase a burglary suspect through several yards before catching the man and charging him with two counts of burglary to a motor vehicle.
Police were called after Robert A. Sorensen, 26, 20184 Crystal Lake, was observed at about 11 p.m. Friday using a small flashlight to peek into car windows in the 700 block of Oneida, Lt. Bob Desiderio said.
When police showed up, Sorensen took off on foot and damaged several fences trying to escape capture, Desiderio said.
In addition to the car break-in counts, Sorensen was also charged with possession of a controlled substance, stemming from the prescription drugs he allegedly stole from one of two cars he's accused of burglarizing; possession of burglary tools; and criminal damage to property, Desiderio said.
City records show Sorensen was on parole for a previous conviction, and that he was arrested by Joliet police in October 2010 for burglary to a motor vehicle and resisting/obstructing a peace office. Will County jail records show he was also arrested in Jan. 2008 for burglary.
Sorensen is being held in the in lieu of $50,000 bond.
