Father & Son Charged in Sunday Night Drive-By Shooting on Joliet's East Side

A father and son were arrested in connection with a drive-by shooting on Williamson Avenue.

The cops tracked down a father and son and arrested them in connection with a Sunday night drive-by shooting that left one man wounded on Williamson Avenue.

Artis Ross, 45, of 301 Luana Road and his son Shaquille Jones, 20, of Buckingham, both were taken into custody shortly before 8:30 p.m. Sunday.

Ross was charged with unlawful use of a weapon by a felon, intimidation and aggravated assault with a firearm. Jones was charged with aggravated battery with a firearm, aggravated discharge of a firearm, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and possession of ammunition without a firearm owner's identification card.

Ross and Jones were picked up about an hour after a man was shot in the left thigh as he walked along Williamson near Hacker Avenue. The man reportedly told police a silver or gray minivan pulled up alongside him and the passenger opened fire.

The wounded man was treated at Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox.

Soon after the shooting, officers reportedly spotted a gray minivan near Draper and Woodruff avenues. Neither the driver nor the front seat passenger were wearing a seat belt, police said, and the driver, later determined to be Ross, kept ducking down to reach under his seat.

Officers pulled the minivan over and found a .38-caliber revolver, police said. A witness located after the shooting went on to tie Ross and Jones to the drive-by, police said.

Both Ross and Jones remain in custody at the Will County jail.

Update: A resident of 301 Luana Road said Artis Ross does not actually live there. He does receive his mail there but does not reside at the address, the resident said.
