Expect Traffic Delays Due to Parade, Races

Joliet police have issued alerts to residents that traffic will be congested tonight because of the hauler parade and over the weekend as people head to Chicagoland Speedway.

The has issued traffic alerts for the NASCAR race events happening today and over the weekend.

Traffic delays are expected between 5 and 7 tonight for the , which will start at 5 p.m. at on Route 6 and then take Interstate 80 east to downtown Joliet, the alert said.

The parade route will be Center Street to East Jefferson Street, and then down Scott, Cass and Ottawa streets as it heads south on Route 53 to Chicagoland Speedway. More traffic than normal will be downtown because parade viewers will be lined up along the parade route streets.

The police are also warning that there will be traffic delays on Route 53 and I-80 over the weekend as people head to the track for the Dollar General 300 Saturday and the Geico 400 Sunday.

Racing is such a waste of resources. Just think of all the gas that is burned in one race by one car. Then think how many cars, practices, and races there are. Not to mention all the different classes of racing around the world.
