Ex-Con Shot 4 Times During Drug Deal With Pen Pal: Police

The wounded man told officers he was planning to sell marijuana to an acquaintance he made in prison when the customer shot him, police said.

An ex-convict planning on selling some pot to a buddy from prison ended up taking four bullets to his head and upper body.

The 23-year-old man was taken to Loyola University Medical Center with bullet wounds to his head, neck, shoulder and armpit. He was in serious condition Tuesday afternoon, said Joliet police Cmdr. Al Roechner.

The wounded man turned up at the Irving Athletic Club on Richards Street shortly after 10:30 p.m. Monday. Police determined he had actually been shot across the street in his parked car.

Before the man was taken away by paramedics, he identified the shooter and told police he knew him from prison, Roechner said.

The wounded man reportedly told officers he picked the gunman up near the corner of Cass Street and Arch Court with the intention of selling him marijuana. They parked on Richards Street and the prospective pot-buyer started shooting, police said.
