Encore: Last of Men Charged With Miley Cyrus Gang Bar Beatings Surrenders to Police

The Lockport man dodged a trip to the county jail by posting his bond at the Joliet Police Department.

The last of four charged with the Miley Cyrus Gang bar beatings of a woman and two men surrendered to police Tuesday.

Jason Palacios, 27, of 213 Robinson Drive in Lockport avoided a trip to the Will County jail by posting his $4,000 cash bond at the Joliet Police Department.

Three of Palacios' pals weren't so lucky. Daniel Lahey, 26, of 2424 Morning Glory Lane in Crest Hill, Robert Krapil, 27, of 2806 Amanda Court in Joliet, and Ryan Elliott, 27, of 1310 Cora St. in Joliet all were hauled down to jail Monday and held until they made bond.

The so-called Miley Cyrus Boys were charged with felony aggravated battery. Elliott was also smacked with a hate crime charge.

The charges stem from a May 20 attack on two men and a woman at the North Hickory Street bar Lety's place. The crew walked into the tavern and "started talking about Miley Cyrus" before beating up the woman, her boyfriend and a good Samaritan who tried to intercede, police said.

That man, Donny Rice of Joliet, detailed the alleged attack in a video featured on Patch. Rice told how the gang subjected a bar patron to racial slurs and ordered him to "go over and sit over at the other end of the bar with all of the other Mexicans." Rice said the gang then began beating the Hispanic man and his girlfriend.

Elliott was out of jail less than three weeks when he was arrested for the alleged attack at Lety's Place. He spent five days locked up on two counts of aggravated battery for allegedly attacking a man and breaking his nose in a different bar last year. Elliott was released the first time after his bond was reduced from $250,000 to $50,000 and he posted the 10 percent needed to get out. He needed another $10,000 t get out for the Lety's Place case.

Prosecutors chose not pursue charges against Elliott soon after his arrest for the alleged 2013 attack but reversed course and filed the felonies after Patch stories about the so-called Miley Cyrus Gang commanded national attention.
