Driver Falls Asleep, Hits Mail Truck in Joliet: Police

Crash causes power outage.

A man fell asleep at the wheel and hit a mail truck on Glenwood Avenue in Joliet Tuesday morning, police said.

Cmdr. Al Roechner said the driver of the car was heading east on Glenwood near Woodlawn when he fell asleep and slammed into the back of a parked mail truck. The crash pushed the mail truck up onto an easement, where it struck some ComEd wires and knocked power out to homes in the area.

Roechner said ComEd crews were still on the scene at around noon Tuesday.

The driver of the vehicle suffered minor injuries, police said.

The mail carrier was not in the truck at the time of the crash since he was out making his rounds, Roecnher said. He said citations are pending against the driver of the vehicle.
