Joliet Police Investigating Death of Woman Found at Richards & 2nd

The victim's identity is not known. An autopsy will be conducted to determine her cause of death, Joliet Police Lt. Brian Dupuis said.

The body of a deceased woman was found in between houses in the 200 block of Richards Street, near 2nd Avenue, Thursday afternoon, Joliet Police Lt. Brian Dupuis said.

The case is considered a "death investigation" right now as investigators wait to learn a cause of death for the victim, who was spotted by a passerby at about 5 p.m., Dupuis said.

Police do not know the woman's identity. An autopsy will be conducted by the Will County Coroner's Office, Dupuis said, and it's possible that information from that proceeding could help identify the her in addition to determining how she died.

The woman is described as African-American and in her 30s or 40s. Dupuis said it's not known how long the woman might have been in the rear yard area or how long she was deceased before being discovered.
