DEA Charges Lockport Woman With Dog Fighting, Cruelty & Planning to Deal Cocaine

The Lockport woman either owned or bred at least four pit bulls for dog fighting, according to a criminal complaint.

A Lockport woman allegedly owned or bred four fighting dogs—at least one of which she treated with cruelty—and planned to deal cocaine and heroin, according to a criminal complaint filed in Will County court.

Vanessa Jones, 28, of 2214 Fairmont Ave. was charged six counts of dog fighting, one count of cruel treatment of animals and two counts of possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver.

Jones was jailed late Monday night following an investigation by the federal Drug Enforcement Agency.

Jones intended to sell at least 100 grams of cocaine and at least 15 grams of heroin, according to the criminal complaint filed Tuesday.

The complaint said Jones also "owned or bred" four pit bulls that were to be used in dog fights.

Jones was also charged with possessing a "Mill Maker Slat Mill," a treadmill for exercising fighting dogs, and a spring pole—a cable or rope suspended from a heavy spring for the dog to jump up, bite and hang from.

The criminal complaint alleged that Jones "knowingly beat, cruelly treated, tormented, starved, overworked or otherwise abused" one of her dogs, a black pit bull with a white chest.
