Couple Argued Before Husband Murdered Wife, Self: Police

A witness told Will County sheriff's deputies that Marcus Crosby shot the woman he married this June and then killed himself.

A recently married Joliet-area couple is dead, the husband accused of murdering his 35-year-old wife before turning the gun on himself at the house they shared in unincorporated Joliet, the Will County Sheriff's Office said.

Officers went to the 205 Independence Ave. home on a domestic disturbance call at about 12:10 a.m. today and found Marcus T. Crosby, 36, and his wife, Kearra Hosey Crosby, dead from gunshot wounds, sheriff's office spokeswoman Kathy Hoffmeyer said.

A relative who lived with the couple told deputies the pair had been arguing in their bedroom, Hoffmeyer said. Marcus Crosby shot his wife with a handgun before turning it on himself, the witness told officials.

Marcus Crosby was a security guard for **Joliet High School District 204. The couple married on June 1, but had been in a relationship since at least 2000.

It was that year that Hosey Crosby obtained an order of protection against Crosby. She'd obtained another in September 2012, a few days after Marcus Crosby was arrested for domestic battery, according to Will County court records.

Crosby also had several arrests since 1996 on charges that included aggravated criminal sexual assault, battery, theft, assault and knowingly damaging property, court records show. He was married once previously, but that union ended in divorce in 2004.

** Editor's note: An earlier version of this story incorrectly reported that Marcus Crosby worked for Joliet Grade School District 86.
