Channahon Woman Drops Worried Grandma With Punch to Head, Chases Grandpa Around Yard: Cops

The elderly Channahon couple was worried about their granddaughter driving drunk, police said.

A Channahon woman lashed out at her elderly grandparents, police said, belting her grandmother in the head and chasing her grandfather around their yard before the cops showed up.

Tonya Harris, 33, went nuts on her grandparents Sunday evening when they tried to stop her from leaving the house, police said. The elderly man and wife were reportedly concerned that Harris was too drunk to drive.

Harris and her grandparents, who are both 74, had been at a family get-together in Joliet where she had been drinking, police said. After the three returned home, Harris reportedly tried heading out again.

The blow Harris dealt to her grandmother's head knocked the woman to the ground, police said.

The grandparents' apprehensions about Harris may have stemmed from a previous driving under the influence case she caught in August 2011. Harris pleaded guilty to the charge and was sentenced to court supervision.

The alleged 7:30 p.m. Sunday attack on her grandparents landed Harris in the Will County jail on four counts of aggravated battery to a person older than 60 and two counts of domestic battery, as well as charges of aggravated assault, resisting a peace officer and criminal damage to property.
