Brother Bloodies Brother With Blade: Cops

A man turned on his older brother and viciously stabbed him numerous times, police said.

A local man was nice enough to drive his drunken little brother home from a party but was repaid for his kindness by getting stabbed five times all over his body, police said.

The stabbed brother looked like he might die following the 10 p.m. Saturday attack but was treated for his injuries at Provena St. Joseph Medical Center and pulled through, said Joliet Police Chief Mike Trafton.

The wounded 38-year-old man told police he had taken his brother home from a party. After dropping his brother—36-year-old Hugo Reyes Zamudio—at Zamudio's 108 Illinois St. home, things started going downhill, police said.

The older brother said Zamudio emerged from the back seat of the car with a baseball bat and attacked him, according to police. The older brother was able to push Zamudio back into the car and disarm him, police said, and Zamudio walked off into the night.

The older brother then went to his younger brother's house to tell his sister-in-law that her husband was wandering around somewhere drunk, police said, when all of a sudden Zamudio reappeared with a "crazed look on his face."

In addition to the crazed look, police said, Zamudio also had a knife, and he chased after his fleeing older brother.

The older brother didn't make it far before stumbling and falling, police said, and Zamudio pounced on him. After jumping on his fallen brother, Zamudio allegedly stabbed him a total of five times in the leg, forearms and jaw.

Zamudio later called the police and told him he was the victim of a carjacking, Trafton said, but officers had already been to the hospital to see his brother and knew better.

The carjacking story reportedly was the best Zamudio had for the police.

"He could not come up with a good reason why he did what he did," Trafton said.

Zamudio was booked into the Will County jail on charges of aggravated battery and aggravated domestic battery.

@Concerned Apparently you didn't read the article... The older brother did not have the baseball bat and was clearly the victim. Welfare doesn't pay for medical bills and how you could possibly know that both of them aren't American citizens...is beyond me -- perhaps you personally know them? The type of ignorance that you just displayed is a reason this country is failing. Your false morals are disgusting.
