Body Found in Vacant Building Tentatively IDed as Missing Man: Coroner

Remains were found in a vacant Joliet Street building Thursday afternoon.

The Will County Coroner's office has tentatively identified a body found in a vacant Joliet Street building as the remains of 69-year-old Henry Chunn, a Calumet City man who disappeared in October after being spotted walking away from Harrah's Casino.

According to the coroner's office, the results of an autopsy performed Friday were inconclusive.

Coroner Pat O'Neil said there were no signs of trauma, but said Chunn was suffering from "unspecified medical conditions."

Chunn had been staying with his wife at the downtown Joliet casino when he disappeared on Oct. 17, 2013. According to police, Chunn's wife, Victoria, left to get them breakfast at around 9 a.m., and when she returned, he was gone.

A surveillance video showed Chunn leaving the hotel and crossing the Cass Street bridge at about 11:50 a.m., police said. His wife told police that her husband did not suffer from mental or medical conditions, but a subsequent report indicated he may be in the early stages of dementia

According to the coroner's office, positive identification of Chunn's remains is pending DNA confirmation.

Body found Thursday afternoon

Joliet Police Chief Brian Benton said a call came in at around 2:30 p.m. Thursday about a possible dead body in a vacant building at 211 N. Joliet St. Benton said the body "appeared to be there for an extended period of time," but said it was unclear exactly how long, or how long the building has been vacant.

According to the coroner's office, the body was in an "advanced state of decomposition."

At this point, "there was no obvious indication of foul play," Benton said Thursday night, but added it will be up to the coroner to make that determination.
