Bar Fight Police Blotter

A wild fight at the Channahon Road bar Liquid Therapy put the bouncer in the hospital.

The bouncer was taken to following the early Sunday morning brawl at the 3501 Channahon Road tavern.

Two men were arrested in connection with the fight. Jaime Galvan, 29, of 706 Woodlawn Ave. and Marcellos Hayes, 23, of 514 N. Chicago St. were on a charge each of aggravated battery.

There were numerous fights in the bar Saturday night into Sunday morning, Joliet Police Chief Mike Trafton said.

At one point, Trafton said, a bouncer escorted Galvan out of the tavern. Once they got outside, Trafton said, the bouncer was jumped and beaten.

But the bouncer wasn't the only one severely beaten that night. When the arrived, Trafton said, they found Hayes unconscious inside the bar. He had been knocked out, the chief said, and his friends left him behind.

Freedom of Speech

A Chicago man invoked his constitutional right to scream in the street when others are trying to sleep, police said.

Miguel Lopez, 21, of 5652 S. Fairfield Ave., was charged with disorderly conduct in connection with a 1:30 a.m. Saturday incident on Bluff Street.

An officer pulled over a car in the 400 block of Bluff Street and it stopped in a parking lot of the John O. Holmes housing project, police said.

Lopez got out of the car and started "shouting and screaming," according to police.

The officer told Lopez to quiet down, police said, but Lopez responded by declaring that his shouting and screaming was protected by the Freedom of Speech. He then reportedly shouted and screamed some more.

Lopez also claimed to be aware of his rights, police said, and he told the officer he was "going to shout if he wants to."

Two residents then left their apartments to complain about Lopez and his shouting and screaming, police said, and the officer arrested him.

Lopez was released on his own recognizance.
