Attorney General Charges Chicago Man With Transporting Thousands of Untaxed Cigarettes

The Chicago man was hit with the felony charges at the Joliet courthouse.

A Chicago man was charged with illegally transporting thousands of contraband cigarettes.

Johnell Henderon, 36, of 1470 W. 114th Place was indicted by a Will County grand jury.

The charges were brought by the Illinois Attorney General's Office and filed at the Joliet Courthouse Thursday.

Natalie Bauer, the communications director for the attorney general's office, did not respond to a call for comment about the case.

Henderson allegedly possessed more than 1,000 packs of cigarettes that bore no tax stamps. He also possessed the unstamped cigarettes without holding a license from the Illinois Department of Revenue, a criminal complaint filed against him said.

A second felony charge filed against Henderson said he transported more than 2,000 cigarettes without having a license to do so.

Henderson remains at large.
