Alleged Joliet Gunman Badly Beaten by the Man He Tried to Rob, Police Say

Antonio Holmes was surprised when the man he was trying to hold up opted to keep his cash and attacked him instead, Cmdr. Rich Demick said.

The tables were turned on a man who brandished a gun and demanded money from a stranger, only to have the victim knock the weapon from his hand and proceed to beat him.

say Antonio Yarnell Holmes, 29, 317 Grover St., initially knocked on a door in Evergreen Terrace, an apartment complex at Broadway and Bluff streets, at about 1:50 a.m. Tuesday and told a would-be victim to give him money. When a second person in the apartment called out that they'd just called the police, Holmes fled, police Cmdr. Rich Demick said.

Less than 10 minutes later, Holmes was in the 300 block of Bluff street and confronting another man about giving him cash, Demick said. Holmes reportedly pulled on a ski mask, pulled out the gun and said, "Give me all you got."

The victim, perhaps suspecting the gun was a fake because Holmes kept repeatedly cocking it, knocked the gun away, pushed Holmes to the ground and started beating him, Demick said. A second man joined in the attack, he said, before police arrived break up the fight.

"I suspect Holmes was probably never happier to see the police in his life," Demick said.

Holmes was arrested on a charge of aggravated robbery and on a parole violation. He is being held in the pending a bond hearing Thursday.

According to jail logs, Holmes' previous arrest record two felony domestic battery charges in 2010, a domestic battery charge in 2008, a driving with a revoked/suspended license for driving under the influence charge in 2007, and charges of criminal trespass to a vehicle and resisting/obstructing a peace officer in 2006.

Did not see that it was a revolver.by kept cocking it had vision of like a 9mm or like it and yes when you have a loaded 9mm and you pull the top back it releases a cartridge from the chamber.

Article said nothing of a revolver, nor a hammer.dude probably had a bb gun. And my knowledge on guns like the 9mm if you load the gun pull the top back it is ready to fire. If you cock it back again you expell a round from the chamber release where it spits out the spent round. There is a difference between cocking back a 9 and cocking back a revolver. On a revolver you can cock back the hammer. when you load a9 and pull the slide top back it is ready to fire no need to keep cocking it back.gun hammer cocks back when you slid top back and will keep firing after that without another slide back.this is why when gun is emptied the top slide stays back ready for you to put another clip in and when you do there is no need to top slide it again.it is already in the position to fire from being slid back when you emptied the clip......Is that good enough knowledge for you.a hammer is way different. It is hard to see someone cocking back a hammer.this guy wanted to be tough and probably kept top sliding back...Cocking it. Without the top slide being slid back on the gun there is no need to cock the hammer because there is no round in the chamber.....

It's good enough to let me know I'm wasting my time, that you missed the point, and that you are more interested in being right than being accurate.

HAHAHAHAHAAHHAHAHA! This is AWESOME! It CERTAINLY serves him right for the attempted robbery and he may have deserved even MORE for being a woman beater(his prior record of domestic violence). Purely POETIC JUSTICE!

It's hilarious because he said quote "Give me all you got." and they did because they were giving it all they had with the force of the beating he recieved, what a fool only thing better would be them beating him down using his own weapon... That's a just reward for anyone attempting to rob someone...
