On Saturday, April 12, two Joliet West High School students from Dave Popek’s Advanced and Architectural Drafting class competed in the Illinois Drafting Educators Association State Drafting Competition at Illinois State University. In the Architectural Board and Architectural 2D CAD Divisions, senior Matt Surges and junior Jose Torres competed against drafters from across the state of Illinois. Surges finished 3rd in the Architectural Board division where he used manuel drafting techniques to complete the floor plan and elevation.
“I am proud of both students for the effort and preparation they put in and I’m happy for Matt to place in a contest with very strong competition. This was a very challenging division,” said Popek.
