The Worst People In Joliet - August 23

**edit 9:28pm** I don't know how you can expect privacy in a public parking lot on a Friday afternoon, but since people are complaining I removed the photo of the license plate.

If you leave a pet or a child in a car while you go run errands you're a terrible person. There is no excuse for being so thoughtless and selfish.

Example - August 23 outside the Jewel on Midland and Jefferson.

84 degree high, according to weather.com. Volkswagen Passat, black leather interior, one adorable dog left in direct sunlight.

My girlfriend and I saw the pup as we walked out of Jewel. After calling Joliet Police and Animal Control I took the pictures below and went inside to find a store manager.

The Jewel workers were as upset as I was when they heard what was going on. One of the workers announced the cars license number over the intercom and told the owner to come to the customer service counter.

The owners (husband and wife, apparently) instead decided to run straight out to their car - appears they knew exactly how bad what they were doing actually was.

The man, while trying to defend himself, declined my offer to replace the dog with him - guess he knew how hot it was in that car. Yeah the windows were cracked, but I'd invite any defenders of the dumb to experiment on themselves on the next warm day. No water and no cheating - lock yourself in your car in direct sunlight and see how you like it!

Just for the curious (or those as brainless as the guy in the photos below), here's a link to the Weather Channel that should give you a hint of how hot that pup was: http://www.weather.com/newscenter/specialtopics/slideshows/hotcar061909.html

Keep your eyes open when you're out. The high temperatures aren't gone yet, and it could be you that saves a pet or a kid.

As an aside we left a little over 15 minutes after we called the JPD. No cops showed. Keep that in mind - we gotta take care of each other!

The pictures: First one is the warm pup. Second is the schmuck himself. Third is his plate number. Keep an eye out for him and make sure this doesn't happen again!
