Halloween Comes Early at These Joliet-Area Holiday Events

Let the kids show off their costumes at these family-oriented events being held this week and weekend in advance of the big day itself.

If Halloween's your thing and the kids are champing at the bit to show off their costumes before the big day, here are some local options to get your spook on.

Trunk 'n' Treat at First Presbyterian Church, 805 Western Ave., 6 to 7:30 p.m. Oct. 23. Trick-or-treating, candy, games, food, classic cars, a petting zoo, photo booth, and a special appearance by the Joliet "Pink Heals" Fire Truck. (Event will be held indoors if it rains.)

The Haunted Museum at the Joliet Area Historical Museum, 204 N. Ottawa St., 6 to 9 p.m. Oct. 25. "Haunted" galleries, ghost stories, crafts, Into the Night Paranormal ghost hunters showing their equipment and photos, Haunted Trails "Spin-to-Win" prize wheel, and a Monster Mash Dance Party. Cost is $5 for anyone 4 and older, free for those 3 and younger. Registration recommended but not required; 815-723-5201, Ext. 235, or online at www.jolietmuseum.org.

After Hours Halloween Rave at the Joliet Public Library, 150 N. Ottawa St., 4:30 to 9 p.m. Oct. 25, for grades 6 through 12. Costume contest, games, food, and possibly a mini-ghost hunt. Click here to register.

Trunk N Treat at Grace United Methodist Church, 1718 Avalon Ave. (at Larkin Avenue), 2 to 3:30 p.m. Oct. 26. Children in costumes can trick or treat from car to car. There will also be games, popcorn, hay rack rides, and a special appearance by Batman for photo opportunities.

Haunted Salon at David Anthony Salon, 2621 W. Jefferson St., 5 to 9 p.m. Oct. 26. Stylists are setting up a "haunted house" at the shop. There will be free glow sticks, prizes, contests, giveaways and other activities.

Will County Humane Society's Annual Halloween Party, 24109 W. Seil Road, Shorewood, noon to 4 p.m. Oct. 26. Costume contests for kids and pets, with prizes, will be held at 2 p.m. Grilled brats, hot dogs, bake sale, raffle prizes, Troy Fire District fire truck -- and lots of cats, dogs and rabbits available for adoption.

The Great Pumpkin Carving Contest at Joliet Park District's Hartman Center, 511 N. Collins St., 6:15 to 7:30 p.m. Oct. 28, for ages 6 to 12. Cost is $17 (or $12 for those with a resident card issued by the park district).
