Readers' Choice: Best Place for Bakery Items

Everyone has a favorite! Make sure yours is nominated so we can ensure it's on our list when it's time to vote.

Here's the scenario: Your mother-in-law's just called to say she's dropping over for a surprise visit, and you don't have a thing in the house to serve her. A coffeecake or a dozen danish would be perfect, but where should go?

If you're thinking to yourself, Duh, a bakery, you win the first part of our contest. The second part is more difficult: Which one?

You already nominated your favorite local businesses. Now it is time to vote! You have until Aug. 17 to vote. We will announce the winner Aug. 24.

Click on the poll below the post to vote.

Sign up for the Joliet Patch newsletter to find out when voting starts so you can support your favorite institution in the Readers' Choice contest.

My kitchen!!! But if I have to buy...Jewel's bakery very seldom lets me down. Stand alone bakeries are sadly becoming a thing of the past :-(

Try the Pastry Palace in which is in Minooka !! They are 100% made to order Custom Cakes for Wedding, Birthdays or any other events that you require Pastries/Cakes/Cupcakes. They are going to have a booth selling Cupcakes at the Channahon Three Rivers Fest on Saturday the 11th and 12th . I like your comment. I would have to say the same: my kitchen. However Jewel has good cakes and brownies.

It's sad. The Joliet-Shorewood area doesn't have a real made from scratch bakery. Jewel, Panera? Come on! I buy bakery from both places but what other choice do I have? Even Sam's Club has good tasting cakes that are fresh but they're not from scratch. A while back there was a great bakery in Shorewood (just South of Dominicks, across the street) called Doughboys. That's the closest thing we've had to a real bakery.
