HARRAH'S! Empress was ruined when it changed over to the Hollywood...there was already a Hollywood in Aurora, so too much of the same...I like to go to "different" places

To me, Harrah's is better for the casino itself, as well as the location, while Hollywood is better for the food I've been to other casinos in Las Vegas, Windsor, and Detroit, as well as on cruises, and from my experience, Harrah's has a very well-laid out and visually appealing casino. The floor is vast, beautiful, and the location in downtown Joliet is another great perk. Hollywood is more isolated in Joliet, and its casino floor is split by a large escalator in the middle of one end, is more compressed in its layout, and feels somewhat dated in its design. If you like Paula Deen, that's another benefit of Harrah's. I only tried the buffet, and can't say I was impressed. It costs about twice as much as Golden Corral (of which I'm no huge fan), but it isn't twice as good. In fact, I actually disliked most of the buffet food I tried, and I sampled most of it. (I haven't tried the menu items, though.) The service at Paula Deen's, however, is second to none. I'm sure they train their employees that way: it feels like good old southern hospitality in terms of service and friendliness. Hollywood's sports bar restaurant, Hollywood Stadium, has good food, as well as lots of large screen TVs to watch sports. (I haven't been to the other restaurants in each casino). Overall, I think Harrah's is by far the better casino. It's a great place to show off to friends and family visiting from out of town.
