Electric Daisy Carnival, a Huge 3-Day Music/Dance Fest, Coming to Joliet

The event, combining music, carnival rides and performers, could bring as many as 300,000 people to Chicagoland Speedway over Memorial Day weekend.

Electric Daisy Carnival, which is billed as the largest electronic dance music event in the country, will take over Joliet's Chicagoland Speedway Memorial Day weekend for three days of music, light shows, carnival rides and camping.

What started as a one-day music festival in Los Angeles in 1997 is now a three-day, "carnival-themed" extravaganza that "features full-size carnival rides, art installations, hundreds of costume-clad performers, and the largest stage built in North America," according to the festival's Facebook page.

Its home site is now the Las Vegas Motor Speedway, where the three-day event more than 300,000 people annually, but festival sites around the country have been added annually as the show has grown in popularity.

This year, stops have been announced for not just Joliet/Chicago but also New York, Puerto Rico and Orlando, Fla.

Tickets for the Chicagoland Speedway dates -- May 24-26 -- went on sale Wednesday, with the general admission three-day pass going for $175 and a three-day VIP ticket costing $299, not including service fees. Single-day tickets will be sold at a later date, according to the EDC Chicago Web site, electricdaisycarnival.com/Chicago/.

Joliet's the only site that will also allow camping. Three-day passes that include overnight camping will be $295 and $419. A layaway option to purchase tickets is available.

No acts have been announced for the 2013 Electric Daisy shows here, but previous fests have featured such electronic dance music A-listers David Guetta, Tiesto, Avicii, Benny Benassi, Afrojack, Steve Angello and Knife Party. There will be more than 100 DJs spinning tunes as well.

Aside from the music, the event also features professional dancers, carninval acts and performers such as Blue Man Group.

"(Electric Daisy Carnival) combines the world's most renowned dance music talent with leading-edge production to create an unparalleled experience of sight and sound that you will have to encounter for yourself to believe," the event's Facebook site said.
